Certificate – Fashion & Textiles – Tailoring
This qualification has been designed in response to an identified industry need for specific programmes of learning within the fashion and textiles sector. It provides learners with specialist and transferable skills, engages them with current industry practice, and prepares them to progress onto further qualifications or employment opportunities.
What you will study:
Pattern cutting and construction techniques production tailored skirts and trousers (A/501/8046), 8 Credits
In this unit, learners will develop their pattern cutting and construction techniques to produce Production Tailored Skirts and Trousers. They will follow the process through from pattern to finished garment and demonstrate their understanding of the production process
Construction techniques: production tailored jackets, (F/501/8047), 8 Credits
In this practical unit, learners will develop their skills in the use of specialist equipment and techniques prior to production of a production tailored jacket. They will select and use appropriate specialist equipment and techniques. Learners will be required to produce a production tailored jacket to industry standard in the order of assembly requirements
Introduction to tailoring (T/502/0376), 5 Credits
In this unit, learners will gain an insight into the variety of styles for men’s and women’s tailoring, and will be introduced to the basic materials, components and methods of construction of a tailored jacket. They will learn the safe working practices of the workroom, whilst acquiring an introduction to machine, hand sewing and pressing skills through the production of tailored component samples. Learners will be expected to research into the different construction methods used in the tailoring industry. They will then develop a number of design variations based on a particular style of jacket and apply appropriate drawing techniques to communicate designs and technical information
Handcraft Tailoring Techniques (D/501/8041), 8 Credits
The emphasis of this unit is on Practical Handcraft Tailoring skills. Learners will develop knowledge of a range of techniques and processes through the production of samples. Learners will need to select techniques appropriate to fabrics and threads
How You Will be Taught
This is a very hands on practical course, so right from the start you will be learning hand processes and techniques taught by industry trained experts. You will be inducted into Health and Safety procedures and policies to ensure you work safely amongst your fellow learners and teachers. Your progress will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are experiencing the highest quality of training.
What can I do once I have completed the course?
Upon successfully completing the course, you can seek employment with your new found skills or you can progress onto our Intermediary Tailoring course or apply for an apprenticeship.
